Never Choose the Wrong Concealer Again

Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s friend clearly didn’t know about concealer. Some days, the difference between looking good and looking great can come down to how good your concealer is. The beauty industry knows this, which is why there are hundreds, if not thousands, of different types of concealer on the market. They’re not all created equal, though, which can make shopping for your best match difficult. Read on to learn how you can pick the best concealer for you.

What is concealer?

As the name suggests, concealers conceal blemishes, dark eye circles and other skin imperfections. They come in many different shapes and sizes, from concentrated liquids to tinted moisturizers.

What type of concealer is right for you?

Choosing the right concealer can be tough, especially with the vast array of options available. While it’s impossible to tell how every skin type will react to every concealer, listed below are general guidelines to follow when choosing a concealer.

Liquid concealer

This type of concealer offers satin, radiant or matte finishes. Liquid concealer is great for covering pimples as the formula doesn’t cake on the blemish. It also doesn’t aggravate pimples and make them worse like other concealers do. Liquid concealers work best for normal, combination, oily, sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Stick concealer

This type of concealer is most commonly used in a satin finish, but does come in a matte finish. Similar to lipstick, stick concealer has a semi-solid texture with a lot of pigment. If you’re looking for a long-lasting concealer that doesn’t crack or bleed, and you have normal, dry or sensitive skin, a stick concealer may be for you. If you have acne-prone or oily skin, stay away from this concealer type as the heavy, waxy ingredients will likely make your breakout worse.

Cream concealer

Because of its thicker texture and pigmentation, cream concealer offers better coverage than liquid concealer. It’s ideal for those with normal, dry or sensitive skin. Due to its deep pigmentation levels, cream concealer is perfect for concealing under eye circles, birth marks and other skin discolorations.

Color-correcting concealer

If you’re looking to correct your skin’s color or tone, you should choose a color-correcting concealer. These types of concealer are often called CC cream. Choose your color depending on what skin imperfection you’re trying to conceal:

  • Purple: corrects a dull or yellowish skin tone
  • Green: neutralizes redness
  • Peach: neutralizes dark purple or grey

Choosing the right concealer may take some trial and error, but this guide has hopefully given you enough information to get started.
